Just because you don't believe it happened doesn't mean it's "AI slop"
A while ago I found a photo on Instagram of Joe Strummer running the London Marathon in the 1980s. Among the first comments on the post was from an individual asking if it was AI. Because a punk icon clearly wouldn’t take part in a 26 mile run for charity would they? (imagine a facepalm emoji right here)
It isn’t the first time I’ve seen someone dismiss a very real photo of an event or person as being AI generated. It’s almost like some form of AI derangement syndrome when they just judge any image of something as fake because they personally cannot believe it depicts something genuine. Funny thing is if they had just googled “Joe Strummer London Marathon” they would have found a load of pictures of him taking part in it, as well as learning that he completed it in over four hours and had taken part to raise money for a leukaemia charity.
I suppose we will only be getting more people crying “AI slop!” at proper photos as AI improves. I like to think that some will still be able to identity what is a genuine image, or at least do their research before dismissing it as fake.
